Travis Varnadore Wins Final Donnie Tanner Memorial Late Model Race at East Bay
Friday, December 30, 2011 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Dec. 17th, 2011.. Gibsonton,Fl... –It was the final night of the 2011 Season as two Championships were left to decide and the final Late Model event of the year going to the Donnie Tanner Memorial Series race #4 paying $3,000 to win.

The first feature of the night went to the Outlaw 4’s. Jesse Brown held an eighteen point lead over second place Nick Hebrank. Hebrank started on the pole with Brown starting in the ninth spot. When the green flag dropped, Billy Howard shot to the front after starting in the fourth spot. Howard was leading when the second caution came out on lap four for debris. But it was also bad news for Brown as he took his car to the pits and never returned, but still held the points lead. The green flag resumed with Howard showing the way, with Chris Zimmerman making his way up to the second spot after lap six. On lap eight, it was Howard who had slowed on the front stretch ending his night as he went to the pits handing the lead over to Zimmerman. Zimmerman never looked back as he went on to win the feature event. Hebrank had to finish in the top two spots to win the Championship. With Zimmerman picking up the win, Stephen Hohlbaugh finished second with John Yates, Kyle Kruse and Hebrank finishing fifth. Jesse Brown won the Championship by just a mere five points. Howard and Yates won the heat races.

Next up was the Street Stocks. The Championship had already been decided with Jeff Rodgers becoming the Champion after just his second year of racing dirt. Bob Fleming and Garry Sheffield made up the front row. Sheffield took the early lead with Bryan Morgan right behind him. Morgan took over the lead on lap two, but a caution came out handing the lead back over to Sheffield. Morgan was second with defending Champion, Donnie Reed in third. On the restart Sheffield led the next two laps, but Reed took over the top spot on lap four. Reed went on to win his sixth feature of the season with Morgan second, Jim Baker third, Sheffield fourth and David Barwick, II rounding out the top five. Barwick, II and Reed won their heat races.

Next up was the Donnie Tanner Memorial for the Late Models. Dennis Williams, Phillip Cobb and Doug Horton won their heat races. Starting on the front row was Shane Hitt and Doug Horton. When the green flag dropped, it was Horton with the lead. Several laps went by and Phillip Cobb took over the top spot with Varnadore right behind him. Varnadore and Cobb were battling into turns three and four and lapped traffic was trying to get out of the way of the leaders. Cobb went low as Varnadore went high and took over the top spot and never looked back. Cobb appeared to have mechanical issues and fell out of the race with Mavrick Varnadore making his was up to second after starting in the twelfth spot. Wallace Peacock picked up third while Doug Horton went on to take fourth. Dennis Williams rounded out the top five. Devin Dixon went on to win the points picking up a check for $1,000 for the four race series with Mavrick Varnadore second, Travis third and Josh Peacock and Cobb rounding out the top five.

Next up was Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Joshua Comeau, Brett Calonge, and Andre Sheneman won their heats. For the feature event, it was Robert Kissam and Bubba Puyear on the front row. Kissam and Puyear battled for the lead, but it was Puyear taking over the top spot and didn’t look back as he went on to win the feature event. Comeau, Calonge, Richard Humfield and Sheneman rounded out the top five.

The final event of the night and the final Championship to be decided was the Dirt Daubers. The defending Champion Brett Phillips had just a narrow margin over Bill Dixon. Bill Dixon picked up the feature win, but Phillips finished second making him the third Champion to win back to back Championships for the 2011 Season. Late Models was won by Bryan Bernhardt and the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds went to Austin Sanders. Troy Dittebrand picked up the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bomber Division as Tim George picked up the East Bay Sprints Championship. Wayne Hammond Wins Reutimann Foundation 50 at East Bay
Sunday, December 11, 2011 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Gibsonton Fl..Wayne Hammond Wins Reutimann Foundation 50 For Open Wheel Modifieds
Dec. 10th, 2011 –Four divisions were on hand tonight for the next to last night of the 2011 Season. Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds ran a 50 lap feature event for the David Reutimann Foundation.
David held his annual charity auction last night at the Silverado Country Club in Zephyrhills. One of the prizes to bid on was a ride along with David in the 2-seater Late Model. Eric Kovach was the lucky winner and got his ride during intermission. Eric was seen waving to the crowd almost each lap. One lucky fan also was awarded as tickets were sold and over $500 was raised for David’s Foundation. Troy “Sox” Dittebrand was the lucky winner. Dittebrand, the current point leader for the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers division.

The first feature of the night went to the Street Stocks. When the green flag waved, Garry Sheffield took the early lead. The first caution came out for Locke Brown as he spun on the backstretch. Jim Baker, Billy Carlbert, Jr. and Tim Gay were right behind Sheffield when the green flag waved again. But on the restart, Baker, Carlbert, Jr and Gay tangled up in turn two, bringing out another caution sending them to the rear of the field. That brought Donnie Reed right on the back bumper of Sheffield. On lap seven Reed took over the top spot and never looked back as he went on to win the feature. Sheffield, Buck Woodhouse, John Kinsey and Thomas Burnside were your top five. Sheffield and Carlbert, Jr. won their heats.

The next feature went to the Outlaw 4’s. Shirlene Hammond and Jesse Brown made up the front row. Hammond took the early lead, but on lap two, the first caution came out as John Yates spun in turn two. On lap six, Billy Howard and Hammond were side by side at the line and Howard took over the lead the following lap. Caution once again came out which put Hammond right on the back bumper of Howard with Nick Hebrank right behind Hammond. Green once again waved as Hammond hounded Howard and retook the lead on lap nine and never looked back. Hammond picked up her third win of the season. Hebrank finished second with Howard third. Stephen Hohlbaugh and John Yates rounded out your top five. Howard and Hammond won their heats.

Next up was the David Reutimann Foundation 50 for the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds. Rich Pratt, Austin Sanders and David Reutimann won the heat races. On the front row were team cars, Kyle Bronson on the pole with Wayne Hammond on the outside. When the green flag dropped, Kyle Peterson and Dale Kelley tangled in turn three ruining their nights early on. On the restart, Bronson took the early lead with Devin Dixon right on his back bumper. On lap ten, Dixon charged into turn three trying to take the lead, but it was Bronson with the slide job taking the lead back. Several cautions came out thru out the race. On lap twenty seven, Roger Crouse and Buzzie Reutimann tangled in turn two sending Reutimann to the pits but he was able to return and remain on the lead lap. On lap thirty seven, Buzzie appeared to jump the cushion with Crouse trying to avoid but ended up in the wall, ending his night. On lap forty, Travis Varnadore and Bobby Dixon tangled on the front stretch with Dixon almost turning over, but was able to keep rubber side down. Dixon’s car had too much damage and was not able to continue. Once again on lap forty three, it was Dixon diving to the inside in turn three trying to the take lead from Bronson, but was not able to make the move stick. When the checkered flag dropped, it was Kyle Bronson in Victory Lane. Wayne Hammond finished second, David Reutimann third, with Rich Pratt fourth and Dixon fifth. But after tech was done, it was Bronson dq’d for being to light handing over the win to Wayne Hammond. So the top five then became, David second, Pratt third, Dixon fourth and after starting in the rear and going off the track at one point was Buzzie Reutimann finishing fifth.

The final event of the evening went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Steve Hadding and Troy Dittebrand made up the front row. Dittebrand took the early lead and had the rest of the field chasing him. First caution came out for Hadding spinning on the front stretch. On the restart, Dittebrand took command once again with Patrick Fiore right on his back bumper. Several more cautions came out and brought Fiore back behind Dittebrand. Dittebrand was able to hold off Fiore until lap thirteen when Fiore took the top spot and went on to win the feature. Johnnie Alexander finished second with Dittebrand third. Kayla Jones fourth and Richard Humfeld fifth. But after the race was over, the claim rule was put into affect as Robert Kissam went to buy the 88x, but was refused to sell. So that handed the win over to Johnnie Alexander. Dittebrand now finished second with Jones third, Humfeld fourth and Don R. Quinn moved into the top five.

ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park next week, December 17, 2011 for the final event of the 2011 season. It will be the fourth and final event of the Donnie Tanner Memorial Series Race in the “Run Whatcha Brung” $3,000 to win. Roger Crouse Doubles Up At East Bay Raceway In Late Models
Friday, October 7, 2011 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Oct. 1, 2011 – Six divisions were on hand tonight along with the Big Jim Bargo Memorial for Fan Participation drivers. Plenty of action through out the night including one driver doubling up in Victory Lane.

At Intermission before the feature events was the Big Jim Bargo Memorial for Fan Participation drivers with twelve drivers all trying to win the $175 purse for first and $75 for Runner-up. Special thanks to East Bay Raceway Park, JR Prather’s Racing Team, The Bargo Family and Tommy’s Towing for sponsoring the event. It came down to a familiar face in Victory Lane and a first time finalist going for the two laps around The Clay By The Bay. Todd Ford was victorious in his Ford Mustang over Brian Snyder picking up the Runner-Up spot.

First on the track for the Feature event were the Outlaw 4’s. Roberto Morfin, Jr. and Kyle Kruse picked up heat ones earlier on in the evening. It was the point leader Nick Hebrank Jamie Burrows on the front row. Burrows had problems in the warm up laps and was not able to continue. When the green flag dropped, Morfin, Jr. was in control. Kruse and Hebrank battled for the second spot, but a caution flag came out on lap four. Kruse pulled off the track with mechanical problems taking him out of the chase. He was second at the time. Green flag waved again and Morfin, Jr. was in command once again leading the entire feature and picking up another feature win. The battle for second was between Stephen Hohlbaugh and Jesse Brown coming to the line with Hohlbaugh picking up the second position over Brown. Nick Hebrank was fourth and J. R. Baker fifth.

Street Stocks were next with David Barwick, II and Donnie Reed picking up the heat wins. It was Reed and Barwick, II starting up front for the feature event. Former Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bomber Champion Collin Kruse came from the fifth spot to take the lead and had Reed and several other drivers all trying to take the lead from Kruse. Collin held on to take his first feature win in his Street Stock. He has been battling the car for months and thanked his friends for their continued support and helping him getting it in Victory Lane. Reed finished second, Curtis Book, Jarod Gay and Mark Pickelsimer were your top five.

Roger Crouse and Bryan Bernhardt picked up the heat wins and made up the front row for the feature. When the green flag came out, Roger looked like a man on a mission as he quickly went out in front and seemed to have his car on a rail. Bernhardt, Phillip Cobb, and Travis Varnadore all tried without success to catch him. Roger led all twenty five laps, and when he pulled into Victory Lane, thanked his wife and sponors for helping him out this season, but had to get into his Limited Late Model for the next feature event as he was pulling double duty tonight. When the checkered flag waved, Cobb, Varnadore, Bernhardt and Hayden Campbell rounded out the top five.

JR Prather, Jr. and last weeks feature winner, Scotty Williams won their heat races. But once again saw Roger Crouse and current points leader Jason Pope on the front row. Just like in his feature for the Late Models, Crouse quickly jumped into the lead leaving his fellow competitors all battling for the second spot. Jason Pope, Scotty Williams, Shane Koperda and JR Prather, Jr. made up your top five for the feature.

The Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were next up. Heat winner Patrick Fiore and Richard Humfeld made up the front row with the other heat race winner, Jimmy Williams starting third. Patrick Fiore got a great start on the initial green flag with Raymond Vann charging up through the field after starting in the sixth spot. But after several laps, Vann pulled into the infield with a blown motor. Leaving Jimmy Williams still in second. Fiore had the field covered when the checkered flag waved. Williams picked up second, while points leader Dittebrand third, Kayla Jones and Dalton Goldhammer finishing fifth. Dittebrand said after the races, he thought Fiore had pulled off giving Williams the win, but didn’t realize Fiore had the field covered that well.

Dirt Daubers closed out the night with Janien Dixon picking up her fifth win of the season, but not able to gain any ground on points leader Brett Phillips and her husband, Bill Dixon who is second in points and finished third. Bill Bolle and Henry Wylee rounded out the top five.

ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The program will include the Top Gun Sprints making their return for their second race of the year. Along with them will be the Florida Mini Sprints, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. For more information, go to www.eastbayracewaypark.com or call the track office.

Dixon Rolls to 50-Lap East Bay Raceway Park Late Model Win
Wednesday, June 22, 2011 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Gibsonton ,Florida....June 18, 2011 – For the second straight week, Late Models headlined the action at East Bay Raceway Park with a 50-lap feature. The Southern Performance Racing Parts 50 ended with a tired Devin Dixon parked in Victory Lane.
Dixon took the lead from Wallace Peacock and pulled out with David Schmauss in pursuit. “At the beginning, I looked like a rookie. I was fighting it out there,” Dixon said from Victory Lane. “Tonight, I am worn out. The car wasn’t the best tonight. The guys worked on it after the heat and got it better.”
Schmauss fought hard to keep second. Wallace Peacock trailed Schmauss to the stripe, but was DQed in tech for an illegal engine. The move put Josh Peacock into third with Phillip Cobb fourth and Bryan Bernhardt came from deep in the pack to claim a top five.
Travis Varnadore, Cobb and Schmauss claimed the heat wins.
ASA sanctioned racing returns to East Bay Raceway Park on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Travis Varnadore Becomes Scott Thompson Memorial Champ
Friday, June 17, 2011 | Posted by: Mean Gene

June 11, 2011 – A dramatic finish to the 2011 Scott Thompson Memorial put Travis Varnadore in Victory Lane as the latest winner of the 50-lap race presented by Airgas. The race was named for local racer Scott Thompson, who passed away in 2006.
Varnadore started on the outside of the front row and took the early lead. “I hate starting up front,” said the eventual winner. “You’re right there where everyone can pass you.”
The only one who was able to do that was fellow front row started Mark Whitener. On lap 21, Whitener was able to pull off the pass for the lead. Whitener then stretched that lead to almost a half-track by lap 40. Varandore was forced to hold off the efforts of last week’s feature winner Josh Peacock and an earlier run by 2009 Thompson Memorial winner Keith Nosbisch. Meanwhile, Devin Dixon charged by Roger Crouse to move into the top five by lap 40. Dixon slipped past Nosbisch by lap 46.
Whitener’s large lead disappeared on lap 46 when a problem with the right front suspension brought him to a halt, giving the lead to Varnadore. When the green came back, the assault on the leader started, first with Peacock and then Dixon had moved forward to challenge. As the white flag flew, Varnadore had his hands full as no one was backing off. Varnadore and Dixon were neck and neck to the checkered flag with Varnadore officially declared the winner.
“The 95 (Dixon) was there,” said Varnadore, the youngest winner of the Scott Thompson Memorial. “The 58 (Whitener) was the fastest car. We couldn’t get through turns one and two at all, but could really work turns three and four. Last year in this race, we lost a motor and I think we spun the year before. This is really exciting.”

OCALA, FL ,(April 9 ,2010).. A cool and dry night greeted the fans and racers who spent their Friday evening at Ocala Speedway, and as usual the toughest 3/8ths mile in the southeast maintained that rugged reputation. The Top Gun Sprint Car Series was in town to challenge the old race track along with three other regular racing divisions, and before the highlight event was over the crowd was literally on its feet.

Tim George led 17 of the 19 Top Gun Sprints in attendance to the green flag, but a couple of misfires in the form of spins from contact forced restarts, plus sent Ryan Partin to the rear of the field. The third time was the charm for 16 year old Amanda Ferguson, who blew past Tim George on the opening lap and opened up a huge lead by lap 4.

Things got a bit hairy on lap five as a sideways car on the front stretch collected another, and the 02 of Gene Lasker ended up flipping right in front of the grandstands and causing a red flag to be displayed. Lasker leapt from his car in dramatic fashion, demonstrating that he was alright, but the remains of his sprint car was dragged to the pit area on a hook.

After the restart Amanda Ferguson again took control of the race and never looked back, although the ending came a bit later than had been expected. The 22 of Shawn Murray, which had been flirting with the front stretch wall all night long at times, finally smacked that wall hard enough to send him spinning down the front stretch and coming to rest almost directly under the flag stand as Ferguson was coming out of the final turn. That forced a green-white-checker situation, but Amanda Ferguson was up to the challenge, going 26 laps to get the win.

GARDNER DOMINATES “BUBBA ARMY SPRINT NATIONALS” OPENER AT EAST BAY RACEWAY
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Tampa, Fla…2.8.10….Damion (The Demon) Gardner of Concord, Calif. took advantage of first-lap spins by both front-row starters Monday night and ended up leading all 30 laps of the 2010 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series opener at East Bay Raceway Park. The “Bubba Army Sprint Nationals” continue Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the third-mile dirt oval. Gardner was slated to start fourth but a spin by rookie pole starter Ricky Williams on the first lap and a subsequent spin by outside-front row starter Shane Hmiel on the restart left Shane Cottle and Gardner lined up on the revised front row. Gardner fought off Cottle’s challenge to lead the first lap and stretched his lead in his Pace Lighting Eagle/Shaver to a full straightaway before the field bunched up under the yellow flag at lap 23. Gardner then pulled away in the closing laps to win the race over Bryan Clauson, fast qualifier Brady Short, Cottle and Jon Stanbrough. Defending series champion Levi Jones finished seventh after starting 14th. The finish left Gardner and Clauson tied for the series point lead after the opening race.

Dave Darland, Bryan Clauson, Tracy Hines, Chris Windom, Cole Carter, Kyle Cummins and Justin Grant are among early entries who will be “sorting out” new rides in the three-night non-winged spectacular at the 3/8-mile dirt oval on the south side of Tampa.

David Reutimann Visits East Bay Victory Lane
Monday, November 30, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

Gibsonton,Florida..( Nov. 28,2009)...NASCAR Sprint Cup regular David Reutimann didn’t stay out from behind the wheel long after his season ended. Reutimann jumped in a Tony D-backed Modified to prevail in a special 50-lap feature Saturday night at East Bay Raceway Park.

The event, sponsored by the David Reutimann Foundation, put a special $1,000 on top for the main event. Wayne Hammond and Kyle Bronson won their heat races and Hammond drew a six for the inversion. That draw put Reutimann and John Bradley on the front row for the start of the event.

Bradley pulled out to the early race lead and the event ran caution-free for the first 30 laps. Bradley and Reutimann were joined by tenth-starting Jeff Mathews, who sliced down low to attempt passes. His efforts were stopped by consecutive yellow flags, but Mathews was able to get by Reutimann. Mathews set his sights on Bradley and the two made heavy contact, giving Reutimann an opportunity to get back in the hunt. He made good on it, slipping past Mathews to cross in front of the flag stand for a popular victory. Mathews kept second, ahead of a charging Devin Dixon. Bradley took fourth with a steady Bronson rounding out the top five.

Gibsonton, Fl. ..( July 21, 2009).. Seems all sporting events have rivals , it makes for the best shows.
Well the dirt track at East Bay has had its share also. This one is in the Street Stock class "Reed vs Skinner " or the Hills , or somebody. Donny Reed has won a lot of races in the class over the years. Now the competition has picked up , " Dog eat Dog " you might say. Buck Skinner seems to want glory just as much as Reed , both racing for the same spot. Nascar calls it rubbing and bump drafting , its just good ole racing on the dirt. Who knows , I might even see a good fight , like the old days...hope I'm not in it.

Dirt Late Model first win for Roush Yates
Saturday, July 18, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

DirtLateModel[1].jpgimage002.jpg

Lake City, FL—Roush Yates Engines celebrated their first Dirt Late Model win last Saturday night at North Florida Speedway, a medium-banked 3/8th mile clay oval at Lake City. Tampa-based driver Bobby Clark drove the car to victory in both his heat race and the A-Main event.
Clark and Circle Track’s editor Rob Fisher had spent the last year rebuilding the Rayburn Dirt Late Model, replacing a 362 c.i.d. Chevy motor with a Roush Yates 358 Ford. “With redesigned chassis geometry,” Clark commented “the car handled and performed well. But the biggest improvement occurred when the team replaced the tired 362 c.i.d. Chevy motor with a fire-breathing 358 c.i.d. Ford from Roush Yates Engines, the Mooresville, North Carolina, engine builder.”

David Reutimann Wins Rain Shortened 50th Running of the Coca-Cola 600

Concord, NC ( May 25,2009)...He had to wait a day to do it, but David Reutimann grabbed the checkers for the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 under a rain delay in front of NASCAR's hometown crowd at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed until Monday after rain wiped out on-track activities Sunday night.
Reutimann's crew chief, Rodney Childers made the call to stay out on the track instead of pitting for what turned out to be the last caution of the race. Ryan Newman and Robby Gordon also stayed out, enabling them to finish second and third respectively.
"I'm proud of the whole organization; everybody has done a great job. It was fun, but I felt like I was on pit road for a month. I wanted either the sun to come out and it quit or just pour and it just kind of stayed in between," Reutimann said in the Time Warner Media Center after the race.
There were six cautions in the race and two red flags for rain. The race was halted after lap 227, when NASCAR officials determined that conditions were too severe to continue.

This was Reutimann's first NASCAR Sprint Cup win in 75 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts.

Kurt " HAPPY" Taylor ,stands by sprinter in pits at East Bay - photo by Mean Gene Adler

Gibsonton,Florida..(May 9,2009)..The Top Gun Sprint Car Series made its first of two scheduled appearances. With strong support from the East Bay Sprints, 23 cars set up three heats, won by point leader Ryan Partin, East Bay point leader Paulie Milum, and Frank Beck. After the field’s salute to the fans, Beck spun, costing him the pole position. On the initial start, Partin spun and went to the back. New pole sitter Shane Kreidler used his good fortune to vault out into the lead. Keith Butler, from the seventh row, moved to third, taking second on lap 4. Butler’s challenge ended with mechanical issues on lap 14, giving the runner-up spot to Kurt Taylor, who was using a borrowed top wing after his airfoil was damaged in the heat. No one had anything for Kreidler on the track, but the tech man had an issue at the scales as Kreidler turned up light. That gave the win to Taylor with Milum, series regular Mike Schroder, Tim George, and Tony Agin in the top five.

Five new winners to Citrus Speedway Victory Lane

Citrus County
#15 Robbie Powell heads up the Figure 8 field on his way to Victory Lane

(Inverness, Fl. May 9, 2009) Eight local divisions and the visiting Bass Champions Challenge Series filled Citrus County Speedway’s pit area with 127 race cars and provided another action packed night with a full moon having its unusual adverse affects on the program. A very superstitious racing community proved again that the full moon definitely has some kind of mojo that seems to provide strange activity on the track.
Next Saturday night sees the return of the Open Wheel Modifieds in a non point race, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4 Cylinder Bombers, V8 Thunder Stocks, the Florida Pro Series and Mini Cup Series.

Shane Burrows Claims The Spring Sizzler At Ocala Speedway
Saturday, April 25, 2009 | Posted by: Mean Gene

photos by Mean Gene - Shane Burrows above left - right John Bradley

ZUBER FL- (April 25,2009).....The last Friday of racing before the Monster Jam break offered a big money winner's purse to the Open Wheel Modified division at Ocala Speedway, and a solid field of racers entertained an excited crowd with their efforts to win. The 30 lap Spring Sizzler Race offered $1500 to the winner, and a full field of modifieds were after the cash.
Four heat races and a B main set the field for the Spring Sizzler, which began with Chris Littrell on the pole. But as the green waved there were problems deep in the field, thus leading to several restarts before the first two laps could be completed. Through that process, one car was parked for three cautions, while others sustained damage or elected to leave the track.
Things settled down somewhat later on as John Bradley held the early lead, but the 01 car of Shane Burrows was on the move forward and took the lead on lap 9. Burrows kept Bradley at bay for the remainder of the race to finish first and take home the $1500, and difficulties in tech would determine the remainder of the finishing order. John Bradley finished behind Burrows, but a problem with the post race weigh in wound up in a disqualification. In addition, the third place finisher, Kyle Owen, also ran afoul of the tech inspector.

Gibsonton, Fl..( March 28,2009)...The Gagel’s Auto Parts Open Wheel Modifieds got off to a rocky start when a red flag stopped action for a multi-car pileup in the front stretch, touched off when Wayne Hammond tagged the front stretch wall. When action resumed, early leader Buzzie Reutimann went to the bottom of the track in search of grip. He found plenty as the car rocketed off the corners. Pursuing competitors kept falling back. Shane Burrows was first to challenge, but drifted high to give Jeff Mathews his turn. Mathews made the best of it, but couldn’t catch Reutimann’s ride. In Victory Lane, Buzzie joked that he was racing under duress, driving his son David’s ride. “If I didn’t win, he was going to put me on a budget,” he said. Reutimann also owned up to an engine that was pushing the temperature gauge to 240 degrees. “What was this, 500 laps,” he joked. Mathews claimed second, ahead of heat winner Alex Boerner, double duty driver Roger Crouse and Burrows. Hammond won his heat before suffering the wreck in the finale.

Gibsonton,Fl. (March 14,2009)....A full 24-car field made up the South Shore Auto Sales Late Model 25-Lap A-Main Feature event. Names like David Schmauss, Jeff Mathews, Keith Nosbisch, Roger Crouse and Josh Peacock had everyone on the edge of their seat in anticipation of another “clash of the titans.” Nosbisch took the early lead, stretching it out to almost a 10 car-length advantage. Dirt phenom Jeff Mathews was caught in an early caution along with David Schmauss. Mathews was able to continue, and after tagging the rear of the field, burned his right-rear off to finish 5th. Schmauss was unable to continue and limped to the pits. Both Jimmy Waldrop and Doug Watson had good runs finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. Temple Terrace veteran Bobby Alexander, Sr. had steadily been making his way to the front in what appeared to be a good 2nd or 3rd place run, but as Nosbisch began to fade, the #15 car found the horsepower they needed to pick up the lead and ultimately the win for his 1st victory of the 2009 racing season. Nosbisch’s 2nd place finish along with his heat race win showed he is still strong at his home track. 2008 Late Model Rookie of the Year driver Travis Varnadore won heat race #2 and the hottest driver in Florida, Jeff Mathews won heat race #3. Al Larson, Greg Leonard and Rich Kessinger all transferred from the B-Main.

TAMPA, FL…..2/11/09….”Two weeks ago, I was at an all-time low with no ride,” were the first words that Daryn Pittman told track announcer, Larry Jewett as he repeatedly wiped his brow and pushed his hair back as he tried to let his first win for the new team sink in.
“I just wanted to be competitive and on short notice, Pete Postupack put together this team with Kevin, Brian and Jerry for us to come to Florida and put everything to the real test.”
The test results were better than expected as Pittman was able to dice through heavy traffic in the closing laps of the non-stop 30-lap finale to the 33rd Annual East Bay Raceway Park 410 Sprint Winternationals on Wednesday night worth $5,000.

TAMPA, FL….1/31/09… The 8th Annual Ronald Laney Memorial race produced a first-time winner at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday night.
Jesse Hockett came to town with a brand new car and a brand new team and acted like he owned the place, taking the lead on lap eight of the 40-lap feature and driving away from the field using every groove possible on the 1/3 mile clay oval.
He was rewarded in victory lane with the “big” check for $10,000 from track owners Al Varnadore and Todd Hutto. Ronald Laney’s father Marcus was there with Ronald’s boxer dog Checkers, to present Hockett with a bonus check for $2,500. C&B Mushrooms contributed $500 to bring the winner’s total to $13,000.
Hockett became the 10th different winner in the 11 year history of the King of 360’s race with Gary Wright being the only repeat winner in the initial 1999 event and again in 2007.

Gibsonton, FL. (June 28,2008)..In the Late Models another great field of cars was on hand as 19 cars took the green flag for their 25 lap feature event. Steve Miller got an early jump on the field and led many of the early laps. Miller’s night was cut short when he and Jeff Mathews collided in turn 1 on mid race restart. JR Prather, Jr took over the lead with the exit of Miller and Mathews and would lead until he got together with Trevor Merrell in turn 4. These events opened the door for the hard charging Bobby Alexander, Sr. to take the lead and eventually the win. Alexander, Sr. was able to hold off pole sitter Travis Varnadore for his first win of the season. Alexander, Sr. started in the 19th position, shotgun on the field. Varnadore finished 2nd. Ted Erskine started 7th and finished 3rd. KD Kelley finished 4th and John Norris earned his first top 5 of the season with a 5th place finish. Prather and Varnadore won the heat races.

This web page is dedicated in loving memory of
Scott “Duke” Adler
Nov 20, 1985 – Apr 7, 2007

scott

On November 20, 1985, Gene & Edwinia Adler announced the birth of their second son, Scott Eugene Adler. He was the baby of three kids and the light of the whole family’s eye. When Scott started to talk he could not pronounce his J’s. And he loved juice but he would call it duice. At this time my father, Gene Adler ran with this…. And that’s how Scott’s name was forever changed to “Duke”.

At the very young age of 10, Scott wrote and illustrated his very own comic book. The family knew then, they had a very special child. Scott loved to draw & write. When he was just 13 years old his Nanny bought a computer. And this is when Scott’s love for computers began. He took his love of drawing and writing and applied it to the computer. He always said when he grew up he wanted to be a comic book writer. But, instead he became a web designer.

In 1999 James Adler decided to start his own racing TV show. It was originally; called Cruisin Scene TV with the Racin Roundup. The show was about, hot rods, classic cars, and racing. James knew he needed help making this show successful. He convinced his little brother, Scott Adler to join the show along with his father, Gene Adler. The show became a family affair. James put Duke in charge of the graphics and technical support. Duke took this role on with enthusiasm.

Due to the popularity of the show, James & Gene knew they had to start their own web site.

James again recruited his younger brother to help make his dream of the Racin Roundup website come true. This was a project that Scott was proud to head up. He enjoyed doing anything on a computer and helping out his family. He was a computer guru in the eyes of the Adler family. The kid knew anything and everything about computers and web design. He was in charge of updating all the information you see on this website. This website was totally designed and maintained by Duke.

When most of us can barely turn on a computer, Scott thought himself how to design web sites with no technical training. He designed not only this websites but, many others. But the Racin Roundup website was his first priority. He would brag to all his friends; about his Dad’s TV show. This was a little secret that his dad never knew.

Unlike his dad and brother, Duke didn’t not enjoy racing. He would rather be watching or designing a wrestling website. But all of that didn’t matter when it came to helping out on the show or website. He did all of this because he loved his family.

I hope you enjoy what my brother did for all the Racin Roundup fans!!

Duke will forever be loved and missed by his family & friends.

I love you always my little brother!

Love, Your Sister
